I joined the fire department in March of 1990 as a probationary firefighter for a period of one year, were I received my 24 hours  basic training on the proper way to wear my personal protective gear and how to operate all fire trucks and equipment. After serving my probationary period I was allowed to start my State of Indiana certification as Firefighter 1&2, EMS 1st Responder, Hazmat 1st Responder, Instructor 1, Fire/Arson Investigation, I also have my National Incident Management Systems 700 & 100 certifiication for elected officials.

During my time on the department I was voted Firefighter of the year by the membership in 1992, I obtain the rank of Assistant Fire Chief from 1994 to 1996. I went on a Leave of Absence in 1997 due to conflict of interest, when a second firefighter was appointed to the Town Board. I returned to the department in 2002 thru 2007, during which time I served on the Board of Directers. While serving on the Board we worked with the Township Trustee and the Township Advisory Board to increase our yearly fire budget. In 2006 we applied for and awarded a Federal Emergency Management Agency grant to purchase a custom made 6 passenger 1,000 gallon 1,250/gpm Rescue Pumper, which we received in November 2007.

Stinesville Park Board

I was appointed to the Park Board in January 1991 by the Stinesville Park Board. When it was under Indiana home rule and thought to have been turned over to Monroe County Park and Rec. for its maintenance. After investigating the lease agreement between the Stinesville and Monroe County Park and Rec. Boards that the it was a 1year lease agreement and had expired in 1976. Most of the playground equipment was broken or missing, the basketball court had a huge sink hole in it and most of the wood siding had been stripped from the shelterhouse.

During my 4 year term on the Park Board we accomplished alot, we put the Park Board under Indiana code, created a non-reverting park fund, received grants through Monroe County Parks and Rec. and received a budget from the Town Board. We created the Stinesville Stone Quarry Festival as a fundraising event for the community, which is now entering its 19th year.  These funds gave us the ability to start helping our selves to maintaining, improving, replacing and revitalizing our park and community.
